This purpose of this article is to help guide students on how to manage their time effectively during the school year. There are only so many hours and minutes each day. Think about how to manage your time effectively so you won’t be stressed out.
Set up a place that is free from distractions. That means no cell phone or texts. This will allow you to focus on your work. Also, have a back-up place that you can use, such as a nearby library or coffee shop.
Start planning your assignments ahead of time. Don’t procrastinate and wait until the last minute before you begin working on assignments. Doing things in a hurry will not only cause you more stress, but chances are you will not do a good job.
Postpone Unnecessary Activities
Postpone tasks that can be put off until your homework is complete. This can challenging, but you need to focus on getting your work done.
Prioritize your assignments by due date. It’s usually a good idea to start with the most difficult assignment.
Create a “To Do” List
Create a list to help identify items that need to be done. This will help remind you to work on certain tasks at the right time.
Study Time and Breaks
When the school term begins plan blocks of study time each week. Blocks of time are ideally around 50 minutes. If the material is difficult, it may require more frequent breaks. Shorten your study blocks, if necessary.
Place blocks of time when you are most productive. Are you a night owl or a morning person or a night owl?
Perform weekly reviews, such as reviewing your assignments, your notes and your calendar. Keep in mind that as deadlines and exams approach, your weekly routine must adapt to them.
Use a Planner
Use a planner so you can plan ahead. Write down appointments, classes, and meetings. In the morning, check on what you have planned for the day.
